According to recent Federal Reserve research based upon U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, more people are working multiple jobs than any time since 1994. There’s a reported 8.6 million people now working two or more jobs trying to make ends meet.
Given inflation rose sharply during the peak of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2022, people found themselves forced to taking multiple jobs, according to economists.
Many people found themselves ‘cost-burdened’ due to rising rents, grocery bills, energy costs and rising healthcare. Reports out of Florida had rents rising from 30-47% from 2021 to 2022.
There are secondary outcomes other than inflation. Second jobs have led to many people experiencing health issues like stress, insomnia, fatigue, anxiety, high blood pressure, obesity and strokes.
For those needing to work a second job to make ends meet, it’s important for people to understand the importance of recovery. People can replenish their energy by getting adequate sleep, maintaining their social activity and basically detaching themselves from work.
Many younger adults even found themselves having to move back home with their parents. To get through this rough patch in the economy, it’s best to focus on being grateful for your family and friends and your health.
