Recently, agency President and COO, Fran Yanity, was on a virtual panel with others from her alma mater, Trinity University. The panel members discussed what employers look for in college hires as well as their own personal journeys to the industries and careers they are currently in. They shared what they look for in initial interest emails, applications, and shared tools that students can take advantage of as they approach graduation.
It may surprise you to know that Fran graduated with a bachelor’s degree in art history. It was the urging of her father and an influential marketing professor that led her to work towards her MBA. That time at Southern Methodist University gave her the opportunity to see how she could combine her passion for the arts and the practicality of a business degree into a career in marketing and advertising.
As with many current PM Group employees as well as Fran, they didn’t have it all figured out at graduation. But by being open to opportunities such as classes outside of your major, internships at many different organizations, and keeping the practical outlook in mind, career paths begin to unfold for themselves.
Not only did Fran share beneficial information for college students, but Adam Cason from Futurex and Matt Reedy from USAA did as well. You can watch the entire panel here as well as apply for internships here at The PM Group by emailing your resume and cover letter to internships@thepmgrp.com.
