April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. As an agency, we felt it was important to choose an organization to feature in Making a Difference in San Antonio that helps not only children suffering from abuse but also women and families. We chose Christy’s Hope as the organization to feature in this special section in the San Antonio Express News. Founded by Christy Prescott, Christy’s Hope is an organization that raises funds specifically donated to the San Antonio Battered Women and Children’s Shelter.
After a tour of the shelter 23 years ago, Christy saw their needs and felt inspired to find a way to create regularly occurring events and campaigns that could educate the community and raise funds at the same time. These funds allow the Battered Women and Children’s Shelter to provide necessary housing services, educational programs, counseling, free legal services, medical assistance, and more. Women are able to stay as long as they feel it is necessary until they are ready to make it on their own. Thanks to the dedication of Christy’s Hope, over the past 23 years, the organization has over $3.9 million dollars for the shelter – money that has provided life-saving services to women and families in San Antonio.
