A recent Ad Age article revealed the latest findings in regard to client tenure by agency type. The average client-agency relationship now lasts roughly seven years, according to the Association of National Advertisers and 4A’s.
Experiential agencies have the longest relationships, averaging 10 years. Full-service shops followed closely behind at 7.3 years. Media-only relationships were far less stable as these agencies face more scrutiny due to the expectation of measurable media performance and client sales results.
Media agencies are also more likely to undergo mandated reviews because “the dollar volume is so high.”
“The PM Group has always had incredible tenure with our clients. Our full service clients have been with us for 1-2 decades and many ‘media-only’ clients have been with us for 15-27 years. When you get category-leading sales results, a client is far less likely to change their advertising agency,” stated The PM Group’s President and COO, Fran Yanity. “Results really do matter most,” Yanity added.
