STEM Goes Red Launches with Inaugural Conference in San Antonio!

STEM Goes Red San Antonio
American Heart Association’s STEM Goes Red Event, the biggest conference in support of women pursuing careers in the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), receives the green light in San Antonio. Wednesday, October 18th will undoubtedly be a major day to remember for young San Antonio women and female San Antonio leaders in the STEM fields alike, as the inaugural event kicks off. Garnering support and participation from over 30 San Antonio female executive leaders and role models, STEM Goes Red is an exciting movement with wide implications for San Antonio’s youth.
STEM Goes Red will be hosted at the UT Health facility in the medical center in San Antonio. The exclusive program invites young women in their junior and senior years of high school to attend the conference and become inspired for a lifetime. Although the main event is just one day, students will be paired with mentors who will stay in touch with them over the entire year to encourage and motivate the students to stay on track and pursue a career in a STEM field.
PM Group President, Fran Yanity, admits the cause is very close to her own heart. “I believe it’s absolutely critical to encourage young women and to demonstrate what’s possible,” she said. “As a mother of three daughters (one of whom is pursuing a career in a STEM field herself), young women need to witness role models who are passionate, intelligent, and impactful women innovating in STEM positions,” she continued. “Above all, this program is built to show these young women they can be anything they want to be. If their vision is to change the world using math and science, that dream could truly become a reality.”
Fran is excited to continue working with AHA and the Go Red movement. Serving as the chairwomen of Go Red For Women, Yanity is very passionate about the cause and looks forward to making a special guest appearance at the conference, to furthering the cause and enjoying the incredible collection of talented women all under one roof.
STEM Goes Red is proudly affiliated with the American Heart Association, so the next generation of women can not only grow up to become leaders in the STEM fields, but they can also work to help eradicate heart disease and help people around the world to have a longer life and better standard of living. The many hard-working individuals behind the program hope that the initiative sparks passion, commitment, and hope in San Antonio women for years to come.
